Course aims
The aim of the course is to give thorough knowledge of the sstructure of governmental institutions and of the main issues in governance. The course builds an understanding of modern-day governance and creates a general basis for conducting research in the field.
Brief description of the course
Political institutions in the context of political science. Researching political institutions. Administrative cultures; constitutions; parlaments and parlament structures, forms and typology. Government types, roles and structure. The characteristics of decision-making processes in governments. Administrative-political dimension. Governance organisation (administration). Governance levels. Different meanings of subsidiary principle. Administrative reforms.
Learning methods: Lectures and seminars.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of how governmental institutions work, what are their connections and roles; the relationship between citizens and governmental institutions;
- has ability to master and interpret the discourse between institutions and citizens;
- has knowledge of main theoretical principles of governance and governmental institutions on the basis of compulsory literature.
