Course aims
Objective Teachers´ basic training. Overview of biology didactics and its subjects and methods. Development of theoretical and practical skills for the professional work and an interest in didactic aspects. Development of theoretical and practical skills for the development of students` scientific literacy, environmental decision-making competences and student-centered teaching.
Brief description of the course
Systematic acquisition of the theory of teaching biology and its history. Overview of educational objectives, curricula, learning and teaching forms, methods and materials in school biology. Review of general part of national curriculum, biology syllabi, integration, interconnections between biology and other subjects. Learning outcomes, feedback and assessment. Different approaches to biology teaching, development students´ knowledge, skills, attitudes and values and consideration of the individuality of the students. Subject comes before school practice.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the general provisions of National curriculum, learning objectives of subject field of Natural science and biology;
- is able to apply them in the learning process;
- knows the content of biology and natural science syllabuses, the principles of integration and implementation of cross-curricular topics;
- is able to evaluate learning and methodological materials;
- can select forms of teaching, teaching methods and tools to carry out practical work, inquiry based teaching and learning, and implement other extra-curricular activities;
- is able to plan, manage and reflect learning activities, compile a lesson plans, create active learning environment, conduct the subject lessons, and analyse and reflect these lessons; considering students' individuality are able to develop students' creativity and critical thinking, scientific and technological literacy, and problem-solving skills;
