Course aims
Application of theoretical knowledge and skill in education sciences and biology at school to form ability of independent work in order to succeed as teacher of Biology at gymnasium. Development of capacities of analyzation and self-reflection.
Brief description of the course
Practical training takes place in the gymnasium stage. At that the student acquaints himself with the school management, follows and gives needed number of lessons as a teacher-trainee. The student does all duties of a subject teacher. He/she organizes at least one action on a subject topic. He/she fills in the trainee journal and lesson plans, fills in a journal of advancement, that will be presented to the chief educationist two weeks after the training. As a rule, the practical training is past in Tallinn, but can also be organized somewhere else in Estonia.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- plans the learning process in the upper-secondaryschool based on the National and School Curriculum, sets learning goals based on the learner, chooses appropriate learning content and learning methods and assessment and evaluation methods, integrates different subjects and subject areas;
- knows the subject-related learning content, uses educational technology and correct subject-related terminology in the learning process;
- connects pedagogical knowledge with subject knowledge in the learning process, adjusts the learning process with the needs of the learners;
- analyzes the cooperation possibilities to support student development at school and the role of the class teacher in the learning process;
- analyzes the learning and education process in cooperation with supervisors, reflects on his own professional development and plans further activities accordingly.
