Course aims
Teachers´ basic training. The completion of the course provides the student with skills to plan, conduct and reflects upon his/her teaching activities and to use different didactic methods and learning materials in biology teaching and environmental education. Valuing practical activities, active learning to implement an inquiry learning in educational practice.

Brief description of the course
Overview of the main teaching themes in school biology. Review of study materials (textbooks, teaching materials, transparencies, technical equipment etc). Students will study to design the learning environment (learning assignments, study instructions and their preparation). Acquisition of the didactic principles for the preparation of biology lessons, for curriculum planning and compilation a subject programme, methods and possibilities for feedback, integration and ICT in biology teaching. Visiting and analysis of lessons in biology. The main emphasis is on practical activities and on using different study methods and didactic tools in school biology. Subject comes before school practice.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the teaching objectives, learning activities, and learning outcomes of biology and environmental studies;
- knows the implementation principles of the cross-curriculum topics (including the environment and sustainable development);
- knows the methodological materials, web resources; select appropriate integration principles, forms of organization of teaching, teaching methods and resources; apply inquiry based teaching and learning, ICT learning, conduct outdoor lessons;
- carries out hands-on activities/ practical works, organize field trips and excursions; guide students to participate in projects, creative work plan; compile a variety of methodological materials and learning resources (the students´ inquiry instructions, worksheets);
- is able to develop a students` creativity and sustainable development-related attitudes and values;
-prepares various methodological materials and learning tools (research guide, outdoor education worksheet, role play);
- can form students' attitudes and values ​​regarding sustainable development.
