Course aims
To create opportunities for students to obtain an overview of the forms of special needs and possible methods of classification.
- To provide an understanding of the definition and identification of a special need, its severity levels, and rehabilitation.
- To cultivate readiness to support students with special needs, depending on their peculiarities.
Brief description of the course
Disorder, disability, and special need. General principles of inclusive education. Legal acts related to the SEN field. Essence, characteristics, reasons and expression of special needs. Role of the teacher in including children with special needs. Supporting a special needs child’s development in the kindergarten, supporting a special needs child’s development at school. Medical devices. Closer development zone and taking it into account. Map for monitoring individual development. Support services in an educational institution. Selecting suitable possibilities arising from special needs.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- finds their way around the legal acts related to the SEN field, understands and uses the common terminology used in the SEN field:
- knows the study regulations options related to special educational needs;
- knows the types of learners with special needs and knows the options for supporting such individual learning needs;
- has teamwork skills and can explain the acquired knowledge to the others.
