If the second language chosen is Russian the pre-requisite is a minor in Russian language and literature at BA level and C1 in Russian. If second language chosen is Estonian, the pre-requisite is a minor in Estonian Language and Culture or Estonian as a Second Language and C1 in Estonian

development of student-centered foreign language teachers and to provide holistic academic education in the field of education and teacher training. The students fulfilling the curriculum will gain competences to work as a foreign language teacher at schools, special interest schools, kindergartens and adult education institutions.
The basic principles of the curriculum:
- support a scientifically grounded and researching approach to the profession of teaching and readiness to continuous subject related self-development;
- provide opportunities for creating links between different languages and cultures taught, and for enhancing cultural competences;
- provide pre-requisites for using subject related knowledge in school practice;
- support learners individuality in choosing their own intellectual and creative development path.

- be aware of the different educational paradigms and evaluating critically their practical implementations
- be familiar with the theories in linguistics, cultural and literary studies of the selected (two) languages, and be able to implement theory into practice
- establish interdisciplinary connections between the educational and the selected subject fields of study (i.e., one or two foreign languages and cultures)
- carry out individual research in the fields of major subject didactics and educational sciences
- be able to plan and conduct the learning process, design and analyse the learning environment, support students´ learning and motivation, and evaluate the outcome by means of appropriate educational techniques and technological tools
- be able to work as a team member and the leader involving and interacting with different parties: learners, colleagues, and partners from other educational areas
- follow the principles of the teacher´s work ethics in his/ her professional activities, participate as an active citizen in the life of the social community, be familiar with the most important legislative acts for his/her professional purposes
- be able to analyse and plan his/ her professional development, and continue further doctoral or lifelong studies

which includes passing all compulsory courses and compiling and defending the Master’s thesis. During the studies, students are required to pass at least one course which uses a foreign language as the language of instruction. Students who have not graduated from upper secondary schools where Estonian is the language of instruction, or who have graduated from schools where Estonian is only partly the language of instruction, are required to have Estonian language proficiency at C1 level.
