Course aims

Major. The objective of the subject is to provide the main methodological knowledge for teaching mathematics in basic school.

Brief description of the course

General description of the course of mathematics in basic school. Formation of the definition of number: natural numbers, integers, rational numbers. Methodology for teaching identity variations, whole- and fractional expressions, linear and quadratic equations. Preparatory instruction in the definition of function, simple functional correlations. Geometry, the objectives and methodology of teaching geometry. Equality and similarity of configurations. The methodology of discussing the trigonometry of the right-angled triangle. Formation of the definitions of areas and volumes. Development of statistical thinking, the elements of statistics and the theory of probability in basic school.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- knows about mathematics curriculum and its structure;
- knows about the didactics of teaching mathematical concepts and solving exercises that are included into secondary mathematics curriculum.
