The plant cell, its structure and characteristics are discussed; plant organs and tissues, their structure and diversity; the plant kingdom system, the characteristics and biology of bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. In the practical sessions, students practice various preparation techniques, gain initial experience working with a light microscope, learn to identify plants and become familiar with their diversity.
During independent work, students prepare for the practical sessions by working through the theoretical material covered in them and deepen their knowledge only on the topics covered in the theory based on literature.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can describe main organs, tissue and cell types of plant;
- has knowledge of biodiversity extent of higher plants;
- can describe more widespread higher taxa of higher plants.
- can describe the most common plant groups;
- can use plant identifiers at primary level.
