Course aims
The aim of this practical course is to develop knowledge in recognizing the most common species of Estonian flora and fauna and knowhow in using different identification keys or handbooks of plants and animals.
Brief description of the course
The course consists of a fieldcamp outside Tallinn in June/July and individual tasks. Duration of the fieldcamp is 7 days. During the fieldcamp different biotopes will be visited and the process for collecting, determining and fixing plants and animalspecies (also animal tracks and other signs) from various biotopes will be learned and practised.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows well and can identify the species within the material given and the collections produced within course;
- possesses knowledge of common plant- and animal species in Estonia;
- knows how to use identifying keys for plant- and animal species;
- knows how to prepare plant and animal collections.
