Course aims
The goal of this course is to provide an overall understanding of game research and theory, design and implementation.
Brief description of the course
Game definition and elements. Game classification and genres. The process of game design and roles. Game idea and concept. Player types and target groups. Gameplay. Core mechanics. Interactive storytelling and world. Game characters and UI. Paper and digital prototypes. Game specification.
The main focus is on game design. Students form teams and design games from idea to digital prototype. Theoretical aspects are integrated with practical assignments.
Independent work
The course will end with the submission of game specification and public presentation of digital game prototype. The design of specification and game prototype details are related with smaller assignments through the entire course.
Learning outcomes in the course
In the end of the course students have general overview about the aspects of computer games and have knowledge and skills in the field of design of computer games.

Assessment methods
The dominant assessment method is presentation of team works. Every smaller assignment during the course ends with the presentation. Also the final exam is organised in the form of presentation.
