Course aims
- provide a systematic overview of the quantum properties of atoms and the influence of physical conditions of the environment on chemical transformation processes;
- support the explanation of chemical processes using the laws of physics;
- provide the ability to apply this knowledge to the results obtained during relevant practical work.
Brief description of the course
Quantum mechanical model of atomic structure. Theory of chemical bonding. Aggregate states of matter. Ideal gas. Laws of thermodynamics. Thermochemistry. Entropy.
Thermodynamics of solutions. Phase equilibrium. Chemical equilibrium. Equations and theories of chemical kinetics. Kinetics and catalysis of special types of reactions.
Colloid chemistry and surface phenomena. Practical work: chromatography; optical determination of the isoelectric point; determination of molar mass; adsorption at the interface between phases.
