Provide overview of networkable devices, sensors and solutions for connecting them. Demonstrate different solutions and provide practical skills needed to connect consumer/hobbyist-level devices and write software necessary for their interoperability.
Brief description of the course
History of connecting devices, emerging standards. Candidates for standards, their differences and areas of use. Frequent problems and solutions when creating interconnected systems. Network devices and connection protocols. Adapters necessary for connecting devices. Solutions for creating network connections, configuring Linux and Android. Distinctions of writing network applications. Examples of using Java, Python and PHP. Transferring and processing data. Application reliability testing. Individual work with provided materials and building network solution.
Finishing assignments started in practice classes.
Reading and understanding “Making Things Talk” textbook.
Learning outcomes in the course
After completing the course, student:
knows solutions and standards for connecting devices and is aware of possibilities and problems resulting from using and creating network applications. Can use this knowledge to build real-life systems and test-devices.
Assessment. In order to receive passing mark student must submit individual and class work for all major subjects discussed. Student must also pass quiz and actively participate in theory seminar. In order to pass the course the student must submit at least ten practical assignments, receive passing mark on quiz and actively participate in theory seminar.
