Course aims
To provide an overview of different types of hiking, the theoretical basis and methodology of the organisation of hikes. Various aspects of hiking, hiking ethics and hiking opportunities in Estonia and its surrounds are discussed. Students participate in backpacking and canoeing trips.

Brief description of the course
Organisation of a hiking group and selection of a hiking activity and destination. Selection of maps. Orienteering. Planning a trip. Different types of trips: on foot, by water, and by bicycle. Hiking techniques. Selection of a camp site. Equipment and food. Moving through nature, rights of people. Security techniques. First aid.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can analyze the abilities and skills of hiking group;
- is able to plan for at least a two-day hike;
- is able to analyze the attractiveness of the components and the potential risks.
