Course aims

The aim of the course is to give an overview of basic research methods and research ethics in educational sciences; selecting and reading scientific literature; data collection methods and basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods in educational research; and to support the preparation of MA thesis.

Brief description of the course

Research problem, aims and questions. Research ethics.
Searching scientific literature. Scholarly writing. The requirements of MA-thesis. Qualitative and quantitative research designs in educational sciences. Data collection in qualitative and quantitative research design. Basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of the basic research methods in educational sciences;
- knows the basics of research ethics;
- is familiar with searching scientific literature;
- knows the requirements for student research;
- has an overview of data collection methods used in educational sciences;
- has an overview of basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods used in educational sciences.
