Course aims
The objective of the course “Mathematical Software Packages” is to develop students’ logical thinking and equip them with the skills to use mathematical software packages for solving problems in differential and integral calculus, probability theory and statistics, linear algebra and analytic geometry.
Brief description of the course
Data types used in the packages, mathematical operations, exact and approximate numbers. Main functions, drawing planar and spatial graphics and designing them by parameters. Using WolframAlpha for solving ordinary problems. Using the packages Mathematica and GeoGebra for solving mathematical problems (algebra, mathematical analysis, geometry, probability theory and statistics).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- effectively employs Mathematica and GeoGebra to solve exercises in differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, analytic geometry, probability theory and statistics;
- constructs basic mathematical models in Mathematica;
- designs simple dynamic models in GeoGebra.
