Course aims
Core subject of the teacher training programme. To develop skills in using modern methods for teaching physics in real classroom situations in school.
Brief description of the course
History of teaching physics. Interaction between teaching physics and society, physical science and pedagogy. Physics as a language. Physics lessons in the classroom and the position of physics in school, education policy, curricula. Different approaches to teaching physics. Computers in teaching physics.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
-knows what factors affect physics education and what developments physics education has undergone in Estonia and in the world;
- can plan his activities as a physics teacher (choose appropriate methods and tools, including information technology) and relate the principles of general didactics when teaching physics in elementary school;
- understands the importance of his activities for the student's development and the impact on society as a whole;
- analyzes his activity as a teacher (self-analysis) and gives an adequate evaluation of his activity, knows how to think and act critically.
