Course aims
To develop the students' skills in planning and leading the learning process, and to enable them to implement what they have learned in practice; to develop readiness for the first main practical training.
To support the student's subject and methodological knowledge in real school learning situations.
To create an opportunity to develop the implementation of the methods and skills of teaching in basic school.
To introduce different options of the methodology of teaching physics, and to enable to implement them as a stage of a class together with a teacher
Brief description of the course
The things that have been or are being learned during the course of didactics are practised in a real school situation. The student will prepare 5 topical tasks (practical tasks), based on the course of I Physics Didactics, and will get feedback to these from the teacher, fellow students and the lecturer. The tasks will be performed in a school environment according to an individual action plan (in agreement with the supervisor from the school).
Auditory work is conducted as a seminar. In addition to that, practical tasks will be performed in a school.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the objectives of teaching physics in basic school, and can choose appropriate teaching methods, tools and formats for achieving the objectives
- is acquainted with the legal aspects of the school (Basic Schools and Upper Secondary Schools Act, national curriculum, school's internal procedure rules / house rules), will find out who is who and what are their obligations (general plan as a conceptual map to be added to the study map);
- knows the equipment of the physics classroom (equipment for experiments, textbooks, additional reading materials in the library) with the help of a mentor teacher;
- With supervision from the mentor teacher, will compile a work plan and three preliminary lesson plans for one class in basic school. Can integrate the study of physics with other subjects, use recurrent topics;
- Will go and observe his/her mentor teacher during at least two full school days in order to take notice of different parts of a lesson and to analyse two lessons
- Will get acquainted with the information channels – e-mails, telephone, e-school, etc. – and information technology tools used in the school.
- According to the topic of the lesson, can find telling and topical exercises, and will create a demonstration experiment according to the topic of the lesson;
- Will teach one part of the lesson, with supervision from the mentor teacher (e.g. solving an exercise together with the class, presenting a demonstration experiment based on the topic of the lesson, or teaching a new part of theory).
