Course aims
To develop the students' skills in planning and leading the learning process, and to enable them to implement what they have learned in practice; to develop readiness for the second main practical training.
To create an opportunity to develop the implementation of the methods and skills of teaching in upper secondary school.
To introduce different options of the methodology of teaching physics, and to enable to implement them as a stage of a class together with a teacher.
Brief description of the course
The things that have been or are being learned during the course of didactics are practised in a real school situation. The student will prepare 5 topical tasks (practical tasks), based on the course of II Physics Didactics, and will get feedback to these from the teacher, fellow students and the lecturer. The tasks will be performed in a school environment according to an individual action plan (in agreement with the supervisor from the school).
Auditory work is conducted as a seminar. In addition to that, practical tasks will be performed in a school.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the objectives of teaching physics in upper secondary school, and can choose appropriate teaching methods, tools and formats for achieving the objectives;
- with supervision from the mentor teacher, will compile a work plan and three preliminary lesson plans for one class in upper secondary school;
- can integrate the study of physics with other subjects, use recurrent topics;
- will go and observe his/her mentor teacher during at least two full school days in order to take notice of different parts of a lesson and to analyse at least two lessons;
- can create assessment models and will implement one assessment model together with the teacher for assessment of work during a class or of a test in order to find out the subject competences of the study group and pupils;
- will create a demonstration experiment – supervised by the teacher, will choose the topic, compile the instructions and the worksheet distributed to the pupils (the worksheet ensures that the pupils will correctly document the conclusions after the experiment), and will conduct the created experiment during a lesson;
- will analyse the results and edit the worksheet accordingly.
