Course aims
To create opprtunities for forming knowledge about human development in various age periods from childhood to old age;
To create opportunities for forming knowledge about human biological, cognitive, social and emotional development and their relationship to learning;
To support student´s readiness to use knowledge from the subject in planninng learning process and student guidance.
Brief description of the course
Basic concepts of individual development and learning. Biological development and factors influencing it. Development of a nervous system, main principles of neuro-physiology. The neuro-physiological grounds for learning. Changes in behaviour and learning in teen-age years due to changes in endocrinologic and neurophysiologic systems. The impact of changes in cardiovascular, respiratory, skeletal and muscular system on students ability to work. Psychological development (cognitive, social, emotional). Developmental theories. Development of identity. Cognition processes. Learning theories. Impact of personal characteristics (abilities, learning style etc) on learning. Motivation, learning skills and strategies in the learning process.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- Knows basic laws of human development;
- Knows development features of a child and youth;
- Knows different theoretical learning approaches;
- Is able to plan and guide the learning process in different development phases based on the laws of child development, various development and learning theories.
