Course aims
To obtain prerequisites for the application of the contemporary methods in religious studies.
Brief description of the course
A historical overview of the development of religious studies as an independent discipline from the end of the 19th century up to the present. An introduction into the different branches of religious studies: sociology of religion, philosophy of religion, archeology, anthropology, theology, psychology of religion etc. Students are to prepare an independent report on the choice of method for a study of a particular religion.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of main religions of the world;
- has ability to analyse the main components of the main religions of the world.
