Course aims

The aim of the course is to demonstrate and practice the methodological issues and research ethics in educational research; finding and using the scientific literature; following the requirements for MA thesis; data collection methods used in educational research; basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods; and to support the preparation and writing of the MA thesis

Brief description of the course

Practical seminars are closely related to the course “Research Methods in Educational Sciences”. Topics of practical seminars: raising a research problem, aims and questions; research ethics; searching scientific literature; requirements for the MA; designing the data collection methods; analysing qualitative and quantitative data in educational sciences.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- uses appropriate databases for selecting scientific literature, reads and analyses critically scientific literature, refers to one’s sources correctly;
- formulates the research problem, aims and research questions of the master's thesis;
- chooses a suitable research design to answer the research questions;
- is able to collect data for educational research;
- is able to apply basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods;
- plans the research methods for one’s MA thesis.
