Course aims

To create a base for Sports science research planning and conducting

Brief description of the course

Scientific method. Truth, theory, prediction, observation and probability. Quantitative and qualitative paradigms of research. The nature of literature review. Critical reading. Analysis of an argument. Data, information, knowledge and wisdom. The nature of measurement and comparison of different measurement scales. Basic rules of statistics. Random and observational studies. Scientific writing.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- knows and understands the basic concepts of research;
- has knowledge in the choice of the paradigm of the scientific method;
- knows the formal, substantive and ethical requirements for research;
knows the main data collection and analysis methods.
