Course aims
Provide basic knowledge of chemistry on the basis of the curriculum of comprehensive schools;
to facilitate the development of creative and critical thinking, problem solving, independence and collaborative skills.
Brief description of the course
History
Atomic structure
Chemical element and the periodic table of chemical elements (interpretation and detection of information)
Chemical bonds
Principal classes of inorganic matter (elements, compounds: oxides, acids, bases, salts)
Solutions and their composition
Oxidation state
Chemical equations; making and interpreting of chemical equations
Factors impacting on the rate of chemical reaction
Chemical equilibrium
Calculation asks: exercises related to % solutions, composition of matter, mole calculation, complex exercises (chemical equation, percentage, mole)
Inorganic chemistry in nature, chemistry and living environment.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with the fundamental principles of chemistry;
- perceives the nature of chemistry as a subject among other subjects of natural sciences;
- understands the principal dogmas of chemistry;
- is able to present self-made speciality-related study materials using the e-portfolio.
