Course aims

To develop an understanding of the historical and contemporary wealth of uses of Estonian wild plants.
To support the development of knowledge necessary for understanding the practical importance of natural diversity.

Brief description of the course

Course about useful plants, especially about traditional use of species of Estonian natural flora. Edible and dangerous plants (fruits, roots, leaves, stalks; of raw and treated use). Medical plants. Traditional use of woody plants. Plants for colouring. Other plants with technical use. Themes of courses have profound treatment on practice.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge about species with remarkable use value of Estonia and about possibilities to use them;
- can evaluate use value of native species.
- analyzes problems related to the use of plant species.
