Course aims
The purpose of the course is:
- to support the development of knowledge about the nature and development of cognitive processes and about their role in learning, including in the context of self-regulated learning;
- to support the development of knowledge for planning, analyzing and developing the learning environment and learning activities;
- to support the development of the skilful use of scientific concepts related to learning.
Brief description of the course
An overview of cognitive processes (incl. Executive functions, memory, thinking), their development and role in learning. Self-regulated learner, metacognition and learning strategies. Self-determination theory and its implemention possibilities by supporting students' basic psychological needs (autonomy, competence and relatedness). Autonomous and controlled motivation in the classroom. Lesson planning: from the formulation of learning outcomes to assessment. Feedback and formative assessment. Ability beliefs and the role of the teacher providing feedback that supports a growth mindset. Learning tasks and methods. Principles and possibilities of integration.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- uses professional concepts of educational psychology and general didactics;
- notices and analyzes the role of mental processes in learning (incl. in the development of general competencies);
- is able to see the opportunities to create a learning environment that supports autonomy and cooperation in subject teaching;
- is able to create conditions that develop learners who consciously define and lead themselves;
- analyzes the purposefulness and justification of the choice of the learning process, study tasks and methods (incl. ICT tools) based on the theory;
- aims, plans and provides feedback on the learning process based on the learners` developmental needs and learning objectives (including the use of ICT tools);
- is able to plan a lesson plan in support of interdisciplinary integration, using ICT tools.
