Course aims
Provide an overview about the essence and regularity of development and developmental disorders, and the possibilities of affecting these on the first and second school level. Guaranteeing the student’s readiness for pedagogical intervention as the supporter of the development of the child.
Brief description of the course
Concept of development and contemporary background system of development. Environment of development, different types of it. Regularities of development. Peculiarities proceeding from age, gender and individual peculiarities. Biological and social grounds of the child’s development, behaviour and ability to learn. Needs and their connection with management. Role of home, school and surrounding environment in meeting pupils’ needs, forming and maintaining mental and physical health.
Pupils with development disorders and helping them.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to explain the essence of development and factors influencing it, and is familiar with basic concepts, theories and research methods regarding development;
- is able to analyse children’s development stage on elementary level and associates it with their growing environment and meeting their needs;
- is familiar with background theories of pedagogical intervention, uses them critically, flexibly and creatively;
- distinguishes the most spread symptoms of development disorders and is aware of the teacher’s possibilities to support the child and possibilities of cooperation with their parents and experts.
