Course aims
Course aims to support shaping the scientific thinking, data analysis, making conclusions and skills of interpretations based on data.
Brief description of the course
Scientific thinking and its evolution. Structure of the scientific research and examples according to specialization (design research, empirical research, experiment, theoretical research). Inductive and deductive approach.
Process of scientific research. Ethics and responsible research in research process
Different types of data and data collections methods: log data, questionnaire, test, observation etc.
Overview of different data collections methods (qualitative and quantitative).
Overview of different data analysis technologies (R, SPSS, Excel).
Preparation of data to analysis process.
Selection of data analysis technique based on data scale type (frequency table, diagram, descriptive figures, correlation).
Method of presentation based on specialization.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understand the basics of scientific thinking and its basic concepts;
- knows the application fields of scientific thinking;
- can collect and evaluate relevant scientific data;
- distinguishes data scales and selects appropriate data analysis method;
- is able to make scientific conclusions based on data.
