Course aims
To enable deeper and systematic understanding of various methodologies in humanities (quantitative and qualitative methods, their choice and combination possibilities, analysis of primary sources, field work, interview, database and corpora creation principles etc), according to specialization field. To enable understanding of possible ethic problems in linguistic research.
Brief description of the course
Quantitative and qualitative methods. Combination of different methods. Application of different methods. Possible ethic problems in data collection and working with informants.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is aware of methodologies and their possible application and limitation in humanities and is able to analyse and to critically evaluate various methods and their applicability in the chosen field;
- is able to formulate and identify essential research questions;
- understands research ethics of the chosen field.
