Course aims

This core course of the study programme „Estonian philology“ gives a systematic overview of the inflectional system of Estonian language. Related topics include morphological theories, research on inflection, applied morphology, means of expressing grammatical relations in other languages and the development of inflectional units and patterns.

Brief description of the course

A typological overview of the morphological tools employed in various languages. The development of morphological units and patterns. Theories of morphology. Morphological research. Morphological shifts. Word classes. Morphological categories. Stem alternations. Declinations and conjugations.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is acquainted with main concepts and terms of morphology and are able to discuss morphological topics.
