Course aims

Theoretical bases of editing of translated texts. Practical problems of editing of translated texts.

Brief description of the course

Theories of Translation: the history and nowadays. Different schools and trends. A nature and a process of translation. The meaning, the idea and the discourse. Semantics, pragmatics, linguistics of a text. Translation strategy. Relations of a translation with social, cultural and psychological factors. Equivalence of a word, a phrase, a sentence and a text level. A cultural, a functional and a descriptive factor. A source and a target of a language. An analysis of mistakes and an evaluation of the translation. A proof-reading. Theoretical bases for solving practical problems of a translation and an analysis of an interpretation.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
A terminology, translation skills, an ability to use them in practice.
