Course aims

To introduce locations related to environmental education (environmental awareness raising) and more broadly with sustainability education (sustainable development education); To develop student’s ability to understand the interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional nature of this field.

Brief description of the course

Subject consists of independent work and based on this a group work will be conducted prior to the excursion in seminar format. During the excursion various organisations, centers and other sites related to environmental educations are visited.
Students get acquainted with the different ways various organisations, NGO-s and specialised centers input to environmental and sustainable development education. Focus is also put on introduction of environmental problems and topical socio-ecological phenomena and their analysis, that helps to understand and holistically comprehend Estonian environment. After the excursions a reflection task is submitted by the students.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- comprehends the interdisciplinarcy and multi-dimensional nature of environmental education;
- has an overview of the organisations and their activities in the field of environmental and sustainability education in the regions that are visited during the excursion;
- is able to work together with other students and analyse relevant phenomenas or situations from different viewpoints, map main stakeholders.
