Course aims
To support the development of the skills of applying electromagnetism via practical activities;
To enable the development of knowledge and understanding of electric current and magnetism;
To support the development of conducting electric experiments and that of related safety knowledge;
To support the development of the analysis skills of experiments in the study of electricity and magnetism.
Brief description of the course
Exploring the electrostatic field. Experiments to research Ohm's laws, Kirchhoff's laws and resistivity of conductors. Experimental determination of the electromotive force and internal resistance of the current source. Measuring the magnetic field of the Earth. Exploring the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. Experiments with alternating current, exploring the work of a transformer and a rectifier.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can apply the laws of electromagnetism while describing and analysing experiment results;
- can carry out experiments in electricity and magnetism, apply the respective theory while analysing experiment data;
- can assess the validity of the obtained results and compare them with conclusions deducted from theory;
- can choose and use appropriate tools for an experiment;
- can conduct statistical analysis of experiment data.
