Brief description of the course
Professional and everyday communication skills development. Specific communication skills formation in order to support students’ independent work with scintific literature. Scientific original texts are to be used during the studies, exercises on the base of the texts. Scientific etiquette verbal models. Pronunciation correction (accent, intonation). Language means use in communication.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- analyzes and critically evaluates complex linguistic and literary academic texts, interpreting implicit meanings, scholarly positions, and argumentation strategies, identifies and evaluates key ideas, arguments, and structural elements in academic discourse, assessing their relevance and validity;
- distinguishes and synthesizes essential information from non-essential details, reformulating it for independent academic use;
- reformulates, synthesizes, and integrates information from specialized texts while maintaining logical coherence and academic style;
- applies and adapts academic style and verbal models of academic etiquette in varied communicative and scholarly contexts;
- composes and presents an academic presentation, critically engaging with sources and constructing a coherent argumentation structure, uses and integrates appropriate linguistic means in academic spoken and written discourse with a high degree of accuracy and fluency;
- demonstrates advanced pronunciation and intonation skills, minimizing accent influence and ensuring smooth, extended oral communication.
