Course aims
Create the opportunities for acquiring the skills for drawing up the research project.
Brief description of the course
Determining the research topic. The structure and formalisation of the research. The wording of the research objective, research questions/hypotheses, expected results. Specifying the fundamental concepts of the research. Specifying the methods for assessing the results. Selecting the research method and justifying that selection. Specifying and justifying sampling. Selection of data collection and data processing methods based on the purpose of the research and the research methods. Specifying the need for research related materials and tools. Specifying the ethical aspects of the research, justifying the ethics of the research. Drawing up of the structure and plan for the research. Specifying work assignments and preparing a timetable. Search of professional literature associated with the research and selection of relevant sources. Research text and referencing. Preparation of the research plan.
It is recommended that an instructor for the Master’s thesis be found immediately at the start of the research seminar. This facilitates the making of appropriate choices and decisions when preparing the research plan and allows one to already begin writing their Master’s thesis within the framework of that subject.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has ability to specify the goals of the research, research questions/hypotheses and relevant research methods;
- has ability to note ethical aspects of the research and make ethical decisions when planning the research;
- has ability to reference, cite and review;
- has ability to be orientated in research methods and when selecting a research method to make justified selections based on the purpose;
- has ability to select relevant scientific literature and to read it critically;
- has ability to prepare a research plan in accordance with the format.
