Course aims
Support coherent application of educational knowledge and skills in school life (at first stage of school);
Connect knowledge of didactics with school reality (at the first stage of school);
Support students’ skill to communicate with school staff in the role of a (future) teacher;
Enable students to get experience and develop as a primary school teacher.
Brief description of the course
Practice is arranged in two parts at the first level of basic school: 1) 1st form – the child's first days at school and 2) 2nd and 3rd form. Getting to know the school , its staff, the school's organisation of work. Research on how the first year pupils adapt to school. Observation of theacher'(s) lessons, giving lessons in trial and core subjects and fulfilling individual tasks. Compiling lesson plans.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to consider the objectives of education, national and school curricula planning teaching and educating process for the first stage of school; create links between different subjects and theme fields while teaching;
- can use the knowledge, vocabulary and methods according to pupils’ age and peculiarities, which correspond properly to the subject; are familiar with the job of a form teacher;
- can analyse the teaching and educational process and their activity in cooperation with their supervisors accoding to the planned objectives and basic documents, are able to plan their further activity proceeding from it; preparing a teaching kit during the practice, follow requirements to its content and form;
- follows rules of politeness and the practice of the school, proceed from the teacher’s ethics, during their practice cooperates with their supervisors and other people connected with their practical training.
