Course aims
To develop an appreciative approach towards working with students with special needs in the context of inclusive education. To create opportunities for developing knowledge regarding people with special educational needs and their support. To develop preparedness to take on intentional professional activities founded on ethical convictions, based on selecting and interpreting the information required for this.
Brief description of the course
Philosophical basis and the implementation principles of inclusive education; an overview of the classification and diagnostic principles of special educational needs; preparation of an individual curriculum, and organisation of the observation and study of a child; an inclusive school as an agreement between teachers, students and the general public.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to distinguish between and describe developmental characteristics related to special needs, and to apply primary principles of commencing cooperation with various support specialists;
- is aware of how to apply teaching principles in accordance with the special needs of the student;
- is able to integrate inclusive education ideas with school realities, and is aware of general educational policy trends in the context of special needs;
- is aware of how to formulate, present and give relevant arguments from their point of view.
