Course aims

To develop in the field of education and in bordering field doctoral students’ competence in writing research article, to acquire principles of publishing research article.

Brief description of the course

Teaching and study will be organised as three training days where in workshops the principles of writing manuscripts at the international level will be examined, substantive structure of research article will be handled and strategies to use when creating manuscript will be acquired. During the course each student will write a manuscript of one research article. Every manuscript will be analysed in the workshops where doctoral student’s supervisor(s) and/or co-authors of an article are expected to attend. Supervisors’ task is to analyse manuscripts of other supervisors’ doctoral students as reviewer’s point of view.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to establish and justify the research problem as well as formulate the purpose of the research article; write a review of the literature;
- can present his/her research methods and the results of analysis; provide conclusions based on these results;
- has skill of writing coherent research article and expressing his-/herself understandably and correctly in scientific language;
- can obtain knowledge about the principles of choosing an appropriate publication and is able to answer questions and comments brought up in review.

TARGET GROUP AND PRECONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION: Doctoral students in the field of education and in bordering fields who are writing a scientific article.

COMPULSORY PREREQUISITE SUBJECTS: The doctoral student must have an initial version of the article manuscript in order to participate in the course.
