Course aims
The course aims to introduce the state of art in learning analytics concepts, application areas,
and research trends. The course enhances students’ knowledge and competences in planning and
designing systems with learning analytics, asking research questions, collecting, analysing, and interpreting educational data.
Brief description of the course
The course provides an overview of the recent trends in learning analytics research and applications in school, university, informal learning, and workplace learning contexts. Students are introduced, through
practical exercises, to different methods of collecting, analysing, and visualising learner data.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is aware of the importance of grounding learning analytics in theory and can use this knowledge to plan effective learning analytics tools;
- appreciates stakeholder perspectives and input and can convert these into relevant questions and feedback loops;
- analyses, interprets, and visualises simple learning analytics datasets.
