Course aims
To create opportunities for obtaining basic knowledge and skills for searching, creating, using and evaluating digital learning resources. To support the development of academic writing skills.
Brief description of the course
Main concepts related to digital learning resources. Learning object repositories. Describing learning objects with metadata. IEEE LOM and its application profiles. Tools for creating learning objects and content packages. SCORM, IMS Common Cartridge. Computer-based assessment. IMS QTI. Tools for creating questions and tests. Web 2.0 applications for creating learning resources. Educational apps. Creating learning resources for mobile devices and tablets. Learning resources and copyright, open content licenses, open educational resources. Production process of digital learning resources. Quality of learning resources.
Independent work
Independent work consists of individual assignments submitted as blog posts, literature review on one specific topic related to digital learning resources, and digital learning resource developed as a group assignment.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is able to:
- describe the advantages and disadvantages of learning objects approach;
- search for digital learning resources and educational apps from learning object repositories and app stores;
- choose an appropriate tool for creating digital learning resources;
- create simple content packages, web 2.0 learning resources, and learning resources for mobile devices, and describe these with metadata;
- follow copyright principles for creating and using digital learning resources;
- evaluate the quality of a learning resources using an evaluation framework;
- use one authoring tool to create a more comprehensive digital learning resource;
- analyze the current issues, research studies and trends in one sub-topic related to digital learning resources.
Assessment methods
The exam grade is based on individual blogging assignments, literature review, and group assignment on developing a digital learning resource.

Hindamisele pääsemise tingimused: kõik tööd peavad olema esitatud hiljemalt 3 päeva enne eksamit.
Kursuse sooritamiseks vajalik töö maht on 104 (4×26) tundi. Sellest kontakttundidena toimub 19 tundi seminaride vormis.
