Course aims

To develop a systematic understanding about main issues and developments related to digital learning resources, and in-depth knowledge and skills for searching, creating, using and evaluating digital learning resources.

Brief description of the course

Main concepts related to digital learning resources. History of digital learning resources, learning objects, learning object repositories. Learning object metadata, EstCORE. Current topics and development trends related to digital learning resources. Lifecycle of digital learning resources. Quality assurance and evaluation models for digital learning resources. Authoring tools for digital learning resources, H5P. Interactive content types, branching scenarios and learning analytics. Learning technology standardization: metadata, IMS QTI, xAPI, IMS LTI. Tools for creating questions and tests. Learning resources and copyright, open content licenses, open educational resources. Other formats of digital learning resources: e-textbooks, apps.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- describes the advantages and disadvantages of learning objects approach;
- searches for digital learning resources from learning object repositories;
- chooses an appropriate tool for creating digital learning resources;
- creates a simple interactive learning resource, educational video and test, describe learning resources with metadata;
- follows copyright principles for creating and using digital learning resources;
- evaluates the quality of a learning resources using an evaluation framework;
- analyzes the current issues, research studies and trends related to digital learning resources.
