Course aims

The purpose of the course is to give overall knowledge of managing MS Windows workstations and to introduce the usage of administrative tools.

Brief description of the course

Administrators role and co-operation with the management;
Installation - Partitions, different types of file systems, NTFS file system permissions documentation of soft- and hardware;
System configuration – Security management, group policy, system registry;
Management of user accounts;
Data backup and recovery – Backup plan, Norton Ghost software, MS Backup software.
Tasks:
Documentation of soft- and hardware using software introduced during course (or similar software found by student);
Data backup and recovery using software introduced during course (or similar software found by student).

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to install and configure MS Windows family operating systems according to predefined requirements;
- can name, find and use administrative tools;
- is able to name and implement the principles of soft- and hardware documentation and data backup.
