Course aims
The objective of the course is to give students fundamental knowledge and skills for strategic management of information technology in organisational context
Brief description of the course
The course is based on the Estonian occupational standard of the IT Manager. Although some of the knowledge areas described therein are supported by other subjects, this course seeks to fill the gaps and develop a holistic approach to IT strategy. The following topics are covered:
• Relationships between IT and business strategy
• Business planning
• Software and enterprise architecture
• Software engineering
• IT governance
• Sustainable development
• Business complexity and volatility
• Risk management
• Information security
• Partner management
• Quality management
• Service level management
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can produce and present an information technology strategy of an organisation;
- can express relationships between IT competence areas and organisational strategyM
- knows the principles of sustainable IT management;
- can develop IT quality management practices of an organisation;
- can relate organisational complexity to changes in IT systems;
- knows the key principles of risk and information security management;
- can relate enterprise and system architecture.
