Course aims
Teacher training subject. An overview of psycholinguistic components of English as a foreign language teaching and their application in lesson design.
Brief description of the course
Using media (both technical, such as the TV, video, internet, computer, and non-technical, such as newspapers) to encourage learner autonomy. Reading strategy training in the EFL classroom. Interactive reading skills development. Extensive reading programme at upper-secondary school level. Using newspapers. Approaching reading as a critical process. Supplementing coursebooks in terms of ICC. Ways of conducting quantitative research through survey analysis and coursebook evaluation study.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knowledge about different reading skills and strategies as well as media types.
Skills to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of various reading types.
Ability to select appropriate teaching methods so as to support learner autonomy in the FL classroom.
