Course aims
Teacher training subject. An overview of basic concepts, goals and the history of language teaching methods. Ability to analyse the essence of different methods as well as to select the most appropriate ones to suit the classroom.
Brief description of the course
Basic terms in language teaching methodology.A brief history of methods(grammar translation method, direct method, oral approach, audiolingual method, communicative language teaching, etc). An overview of language learning process, its theoretical background, its affective and cognitive principles. Teaching across age levels and proficiency levels. Ways of conducting language learning research through developmental case studies.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knowledge about the historical background of FLT methods.
Skills to assess and select appropriate teaching methods according to the given classroom requirements.
