Course aims
The aim of the course is to enable students to acquire knowledge of key rules and principles of international law and ability to apply those rules and principles in concrete cases.
Brief description of the course
The course provides an introduction into key topics in international law, from the doctrine of sources through to the concepts of state jurisdiction, state responsibility, immunities etc. In addition to general topics, we will deal with specific regimes of international law, such as the law on the use of force and collective security.
The course will be structured as follows:
1. Introduction
2. Sources of international law
3. The law of treaties
4. Subjects of international law
5. Jurisdiction, powers, immunities
6. Law of state responsibility
7. International courts and tribunals
8. Law on the use of force
9. Collective security
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Upon completion of the course, students will have acquired knowledge of the place and importance of international law in world politics. They will have general knowledge concerning some of the most important subfields of international law. They will be able to follow and understand current world events through the prism of international law.
