Course aims
To give a comprehensive introduction into 13th to 16th century Estonian Art and architecture.To enable students to develop their skills for analysing art and architecture in its historical, political, and cultural context.
Brief description of the course
The course introduces Estonian medieval and early modern art and architecture. Development of Estonian medieval art and architecture from Christianisation to Reformation will be analysed on the background of European developments in art and architecture. Special attention will be paid to church art and architecture. The function and use of artefacts and the spatial features of church buildings will be analysed.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
The student is capable to understand development of Estonian medieval art and architecture in a wider historical and cultural context; knows terminology and is able to use it; has acquired skills in group work.
