Course aims
Enable the students to see medieval art and architecture in wider context and from different viewpoints.
Brief description of the course
The course seeks answers to the question of the role of medieval art in understanding this historical period. What part did it play in the lives of contemporaries? How were artifacts looked at, seen and interpreted? How were the objects situated in the spaces of the church, town, dwelling and what was its function? On-site contact and experience with the artifacts is emphasized.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
The student is
1. able to regard medieval artistic heritage in a wider cultural context.
2. able to analyse an artifact and architectural object with their aesthetic values as well as religious and social functions.
3. has acquired the skills of group work and public presentation.
