Course aims
To form knowledge on theorethical approaches to youth policy and youth work. To provide an overview of youth policy in Estonia and the rest of the world and give basic knowledge about youth policy. To introduce youth work structures and organisation in Estonia. To provide knowledge of young people's and youth workers’ participation in youth policy and youth work processes. To support the shaping of an understanding of the connections between youth policy and organisation of youth work on different levels.
Brief description of the course
Theorethical approaches to youth policy and youth work, their history and development. Young people and modern society.The principles, goals, subjects and levels of youth policy. Evidence based approach. Legislation that regulates youth policy and youth work. The goals, structure and organisation of youth work at different levels. Participation of youth and youth workers in youth policy and youth works processes. Quality and development of youth work.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the theories necessary to understand the functioning of youth field whith main focus on describing youth and modern society;
- knows the most important regulations and structures of youth policy and youth work;
- understands the main principles, influences and processes of youth policy and youth work;
- has an overview of the development of youth policy and youth work in Estonia and abroad;
- understands the role of youth worker and youth in youth policy and youth work.
