Course aims

Specialty elective. The course is intended to contribute to the development of students’ knowledge and skills in order to recognise and understand the crises of the child and provide appropriate help.

Brief description of the course

The course concentrates on the special traits of the child in crises and the principles of assistance. Different traumatising situations are analysed, like: illness, loss of loved ones, disability, school violence, parents’ alcoholism and violence, parents’ divorce, separation, foster-parenting, etc.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Lectures, seminars. The student writes an essay: “How I understand child’s crisis“, which may be based on personal crisis experience or literature of certain crisis field.
