Course aims
Specialty elective. The course is intended to contribute to the development of students’ awareness of international conventions in the field of child protection; Estonian laws and regulations; of child protection in Estonia and other countries; of the main principles of the Convention on the Rights of Child and find practical solutions.
Brief description of the course
Convention on the Rights of Child – open international agreement, countries which have joined it and priorities of child protection. Applying and reporting on the Convention on the Rights of Child. Children outside biological family and legislation. Family with children, supporting legislation, possibilities of valuing them.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to orient in the legislation of the subject area, find necessary information from norms and court decisions.
- has knowledge and skills for solving cases, they are able to describe the main problems and find optimal solutions taking into account the interest of the child;
- can prepare independent work in a selected topic outlining the most important problems;
- makes own suggestions about the possible resolution of the situation or analyses on the basis of personal experience the norms in a specific field.
