Brief description of the course
The course introduces students to the main lines of conflict and key political cleavages in the process of European integration. Among the questions to be studied are: What determines public opinion on European integration? Which factors explain how politicians vote in the Council and in the European Parliament? Which role do Europarties perform in regional integration? Is European integration a centrist project? Do elites and citizens have similar preferences towards European integration?
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands that in the course of history Europe has always been socially constructed and there is no natural Europe;
- understands that there is something what can be understood as European civilization.
